While St Andrews in Scotland is famed for being the home of golf, North Wales’ golf heritage is just as steeped in history. The first golf club opened at Baron Hill on Anglesey in 1889, with some of the most notable courses including Royal St David’s in Harlech and Conwy Golf Club outside Llandudno opening a year or two later. The first amateur golf competition held in Wales was in 1895 and the first professional championship in 1904, and of course we’ve produced several players of note including Ian Woosnam.
