October Half-Term in North Wales

Half term is fast approaching, now is the time to start planning the perfect family break away in North Wales. There’s lots going on, especially with Halloween creeping up too, giving you the chance to enjoy a half-term of spooky festivities and fun times together.

Spooktacular Halloween Family Fun

Zip World (Betws-y-Coed)

34-minute drive

This half-term head to Zip World in Betws-y-Coed for their scary Halloween-themed event, Ffear Fforest and ‘experience true fear this October at North Wales’ most terrifying Halloween scare-fest’.

At Zip World they’ve gone all out creating a terrifying world full of ‘demonic clowns’ so you’ll have to ‘brace yourself for a night of total terror’. Buy a Night Pass for an evening of Halloween fun including adrenaline adventures in the dark, the famous Cursed Coaster and The Nets. Book your experience and add some extra scary fun!

Pumkin Fest Nights at Manorafon Farm

23-minute drive

A Halloween bonanza is coming to Manorafon Farm in the shape of Pumpkin Fest, ‘as darkness falls, the Pumpkin Village comes alive!’

Peruse the pumpkin market beneath the twinkling lights and wander around the village for fun and games; try your hand at axe-throwing, carve your own pumpkin, do a little marshmallow toasting, meet the quirky Halloween characters and settle in to the cosy autumn vibes with food, drink and live music.

Porth Eirias 1K Kids Halloween Fun Run

16-minute drive

The Port Eirias 10k is a short, fun, and flat 1K run open to ages 3 – 15 years old, along the North Wales coastal path. There’s also a 10km way-marked and measured route for any parents looking for a longer challenge and this year they’re ‘encouraging you to find the ‘fun in the run’ by dressing up in your finest and most wacky Halloween costumes!’

Zip World Penrhyn Quarry

36-minute drive

Take to the sky this half-term at Zip World in Penrhyn Quarry. Velocity, the fastest zip line in the world will whisk you across the quarry at more than 100 mph or you can become an Aero Explorer – on a unique overhead track taking you on 3 loops of the 400-metre track at 30 mph.

For those wishing to stay on the ground, hop in the driver’s seat at Quarry Karts or in the big red truck for a Penrhyn Quarry Tour.

Welsh Mountain Zoo

16-minute drive

Sitting above Colwyn Bay, visitors at the Welsh Mountain Zoo ‘where conservation comes to life’. Visitors enjoy far-reaching views of the North Wales’ coast whilst supporting this hub of conservation, home to an impressive collection of animals from around the world, from red pandas and sea lions to snow leopards and chimpanzees – the zoo strives to ‘educate guests about the vital need to protect wildlife and their habitats.’ A day here this half-term will be a winner for families, explorers and animal-lovers alike!

 

Outdoor Adventures & Nature

If you’re a family of explorers staying at our Llandudno hotel this half-term, set out for a scenic mountain hike or exploration of some of our most beautiful landscapes. Our seafront hotel is just on the outskirts of Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park which means outside adventures are right on our doorstep. Or perhaps you’d prefer to hop aboard the Snowdon Mountain Railway to reach the summit of Wales’ highest mountain! We have plenty of walks and hikes nearby to suit any ability or age. Walk to Aber Falls

Parking – 238-minute drive

Enjoy this family-friendly 4.5km picturesque out-and-back walk to the impressive Aber Falls.

‘Aber Falls is one of Eryri’s most dramatic waterfalls. Situated at the northern foothills of the Carneddau, the waterfall is part of Afon Goch’s (Red River) final descent to the Menai Straits.’

Visit Medieval Castles

During your half-term break, plan to visit some of North Wales’ most beautiful castles. Iconic castles like Caernarfon Castle, a UNESCO site, or the impressive Beaumaris Castle on Anglesey.

The medieval Beaumaris Castle is a scenic 43-minute drive from your Llandudno accommodation; a World Heritage Site, it’s open to visitors to explore and learn of its history and legends.

Or even closer, just 15 minutes from our Llandudno hotel you can discover the stunning Conwy Castle. Distinctive and remarkably well-preserved, this medieval fortress still protects the town of Conwy with its 1.3km ring of walls.

Hop on the Snowdon Mountain Railway

44-minute drive

Great for the whole family, if you don’t fancy walking to the 1085m summit of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) you can take a traditional train ride from the town of Llanberis to the summit for breath-taking views along the way and 360-degree views from the top (on a clear day!)
